In case of bad weather, tune into KFYR 550 or visit www.bismarckyouthbaseball.org or call 222-0659 for possible game cancellations. Please be sure to listen for announcements pertaining to Bismarck Youth Baseball League or BYB as we are oftentimes confused with “Youth Baseball”. Also, just because “Youth Baseball” has been cancelled in Bismarck, does not mean our League has cancelled games. The Board of Directors will call the radio station, then update the home page of the website and change the voicemail announcement. If you do not hear anything, games will occur with the Umpire to determine play or no play. If conditions warrant before 5pm, BYB will cancel all games in the afternoon. If some fields are better than others and may be playable., we will leave this decision to the Umpire, should conditions change. We try hard NOT to cancel games due to rainouts as the Major Division is the only division that will make up unplayed games. If the games are called after 5pm by the Umpire, a representative from each team should stay at the field until all players have been notified in person or by phone, NOT by leaving a message, voicemail or email.
In the event weather turns threatening during a game, the officiating umpire, or coaches in T-ball, must end the game and ask the participants to leave the field. Lightning, strong winds, and driving rains are not conducive to baseball games and warrant canceling the game. Games will not be cancelled due to rain, but will be cancelled due to unplayable fields. Coaches should remain at the field long enough to ensure every player has been verbally contacted so that players are not stranded without a ride.
Our new Umpire procedures in the Minors may change how we do this. However, if BYB does not cancel all games before 5pm, it is the responsibility of the Home and Away Coaching staff d teams to meet at the field and play the games unless the Umpires determine they should not be played. Just because it is raining does not warrant calling off the game. Please impress this upon your Coaches and Umpires. Lightening or unplayable field conditions are the only reason a game should be called.
