Each team must have a coach. The coach must know baseball, possess leadership abilities, and have the know-how and personality to work with young children. The coach is responsible to manage the team through a successful season and teach the athletes the fundamentals of baseball, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and discipline, while providing a fair positive learning environment. The coach will be required to attend a coaches training session and a coaches meeting. Generally, we expect each minor and major division coach to hold at least one practice a week and attend two evening games a week. Coaching in the Major Division requires prior coaching experience in the Minors. Head Coaches MUST attend the Coaches meeting and training session. Since you are registering after most teams have been staffed, your child’s team may or may not have need for a Coach or Asst Coach. Coaches do not retain “ownership” of their teams from one year to the next. While we try to provide an enjoyable school or neighborhood experience, the Team Selection committee may change team staffing for Coaches and players from one year to the next.
Each team needs two Assistant Coaches. The assistant coach is responsible for helping the Coach teach the players and manage the team as well as keep book during games. The Assistant Coaches are strongly encouraged to attend the Coaches’ meeting and a training session.
Each team must have a team coordinator. The team coordinator is responsible for overall coordination of the team, including overseeing the distribution and collection of uniforms, the fund raising event, the Celebration activities, the team and individual pictures, and the game refreshments. We expect the team coordinator to delegate certain responsibilities to other team parents. Please don’t volunteer in this capacity if you want to pick and choose between the responsibilities.
