The Rookie Division is for players who are 7- or 8-years old on April 30th of the current season. This division makes use of a pitching machine to allow for more hittable balls at the plate and more action in the field. Fear of being hit by a pitched ball is diminished. It makes the game safer and improves the playing confidence and ability of all participants. It removes the boredom - which is often the result of either overpowering or inadequate pitching - by throwing mostly strikes. Fewer errors and greater throwing accuracy are the result of increase in activity. This structure has received high praise from coaches, players, parents, and league officials, and it is an excellent way to continue teaching the fundamentals of the game and building player confidence. Parent umpires are introduced at this level. No end of season tournament will be played.
For the entire season, teams will have a mix of practices and games that will be scheduled by the League. This will allow for continued development, while minimizing extra time demands on families. Players will be expected to participate in the scheduled practices, and attendance and attitude may affect play time and field positions. Attendance is required for at least 85% of all games and practices for the benefit of the team and to ensure that all players progress together.
Every attempt will be made to assign players to teams with schoolmates, however as teams fill up players will be assigned to the next team with openings. The League will make attempts to place players with at least a few schoolmates, however our primary purpose is to provide a player with a strong education basis in baseball, not to provide a social experience with schoolmates.
Coaches can use the template below to assure rotation of players during the season. Additional parameters are also found within the League Rookie rules document.
